Sri Lanka’s finest old firm of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene put on a partnership for one last time in Tests, building a 165 run second innings lead for Sri Lanka on a track where Rangana Herath already took a 9 wicket haul in the first innings. Sri Lanka made 177/2 at Stumps on Day 3 of the second Test against Pakistan at the SSC Ground in Colombo.
Herath and Sarfraz Ahmed both picked up from where they had left on Day 2 in the morning. The Lankan had replied with 5/98 on Day 2 to restrict Pakistan to 244/6 after Sri Lanka had been wrapped up for 320, Junaid Khan finishing with 5/87. Ahmed was one of Pakistan’s two batsmen to cross 50 and had remained unbeaten on 66.
Ahmed was busy scoring at a comfortable pace and he found enough assistance to score his first Test hundred even as Herath chipped away at the other end.
