The Germany international, who was majority of the 2013-14 season, picked up a thigh problem in Sunday's 1-0 Serie A win over Atalanta
Fiorentina have confirmed that Mario Gomez has been ruled out of action for three weeks through injury.
The Germany international played all 90 minutes of Sunday's Serie A clash with Atalanta in Bergamo but the Viola have now revealed that the striker is facing a short spell on the sidelines.
"ACF Fiorentina can confirm that in the closing stages of the Atalanta v Fiorentina match, Mario Gomez sustained a grade one injury to the myotendinous junction of the flexor tendons in his right thigh," read a statement on the club's official website.
"This diagnosis was confirmed by medical checks carried out today [Monday].
"Gomez has already started treatment on the injury, and will undergo more tests in 10 days.
"He is expected to return to full fitness within three weeks."
Gomez, who had yet to find the net for Fiorentina this season, has been beset by injury problems since joining the Artemio Franchi outfit from Bayern Munich last summer.
