The Indian Super League’s (ISL) youngest club, Chennaiyin FC, on Monday unveiled their club logo, with the festivities carried out by new player-manager and former Italian World Cup winner Marco Materazzi alongside co-owner Vita Dani.
'Duradrishti', as the logo is known in Indian discourse, is a sign of positivity that the club espouses and aims to preserve. The logo adapted the image from the good luck charm that is a component of every household in Tamil Nadu. What's more interesting is that the charm is replicated with the same characteristics in countries such as Turkey, Spain and Italy, which gives it a uniquely curated global identity.
A dissection of the logo’s colours, which is a combination of the yellow ‘Drishti’ on a blue background, reveals that whilst the yellow emits elements key to happiness such as hope and cheer, the blue accompanies these feelings with trust and honesty.
“I am delighted that our team name and logo originates from the heart of Chennai’s life and culture. Tamil Nadu and especially Chennai has a rich history in the field of sports and, we at Chennaiyin FC are committed to promote the beautiful game across the state.
"I am thankful to the Indian Super League for creating this wonderful platform and I look forward to make Chennai my new home,” revealed Dani, at the event.
Abhishek Bachchan, a co-owner himself, explained that the ISL venture with Chennaiyins is something he is expecting.
“These are exciting times for football fans in the country. Being an ardent football supporter, our club Chennaiyin FC comes very close to my heart. The Indian Super League has given us an opportunity to get involved in football and the most exciting aspect for me is to work on the grassroots level and youth academies,” stated Bachchan.
Whilst the inaugural ISL season is expected to start on October 12th, Chennaiyins FC play their first home game of the campaign against Kerala Blasters on October 19th, 2014.
